Preston's heart clenched in his chest at Reo's words, a surge of pain and anger and desperate, frantic love welling up inside him. He couldn't bear the thought of losing his omega, of letting him slip away, not like this, not when he still had so much to give, so much to learn. And he certainly couldn't abide by the notion that Reo would be laughed at, or reviled, or seen as anything less than the precious, perfect omega he was.

"Damn your pride, Reo," Preston snarled, his voice rough with emotion. "Damn it and damn you for being so stubborn, so foolish as to think I would let you die here, on this deck, with the name of Silvertongue as a curse on your lips. You are a Silvertongue, and you will wear that name with the honor and dignity it deserves, or not at all."

He hauled Reo into his arms, cradling the omega against his chest, his fingers splayed across the small of his back, holding him close. "You think I would let you die with the world believing you were anything less than the finest omega in the land? You think I would let your memory be tainted by the gossip and the scandal of my infidelity? No, I won't have it, Reo. I won't let you go, won't let you die, not like this, not now."

Preston's hand came up to cup Reo's cheek, his thumb brushing across the omega's split lip, wiping away the blood. "I am your alpha, and I am your husband. And I will not let you throw your life away, not when you still have so much to live for, so much to experience at my side. You will not die here, Reo. Not on this deck, not with the name of Silvertongue as a curse on your lips. You are mine, and you will live, and you will bear my name with pride, now and forever."

*The stubborn, foolish omega, still insisting on death, still believing that he would be laughed at, reviled by the world for the sins of his alpha. He doesn't understand, can't comprehend the depth of my love, my hunger to possess him utterly, to keep him by my side for all of our days. He's a Silvertongue, and he will bear that name with the honor and dignity it deserves, or not at all. I won't let him go, won't let him die here, not like this, not when he still has so much to live for, so much to experience at my side. He's mine, and I'll make him see that, make him understand the true nature of our bond, of the love that ties us together. He'll live, and he'll be proud to bear my name, proud to be the omega of Preston Silvertongue.*
